How should I read the chart?
Each of the four letters comes from one Big Five score. Shared letters show where two people tend to work the same way: how much social time they want, whether they talk in ideas or facts, how they make decisions and handle conflict, and how much they like plans. Different letters show where they will need to explain themselves to each other, and where each can learn something from the other.
Why do the middle letters matter most?
As a rule of thumb, the middle two letters, from Openness and Agreeableness, shape what people notice and how they handle disagreement. Pairs that share them often feel at ease sooner. Pairs that differ on both can take more work, and often learn the most. This is a rule of thumb, not a research finding.
How does each type get on with the others?

Compatibility questions
Which personality types are most compatible?
No pair of types is sure to work or sure to fail. As a rule of thumb, types that share their middle two letters (from Openness and Agreeableness) often feel at ease sooner, because they notice the same kinds of things and handle disagreement the same way. Kindness and good habits matter far more.
What do the numbers in the chart mean?
Each cell shows how many of the four letters the two types share, from 0 to 4. More shared letters usually means less to explain to each other, and fewer means more to learn from each other.
Is a type compatibility chart scientific?
No. It is a guide to talking about differences, not a prediction. Research on couples finds that how similar two personalities are has only a small link with how happy the relationship is.

Why does each pair have only one page?
Because ENFP and INTJ is the same pair as INTJ and ENFP. Every pair page uses the two codes in alphabetical order, so there are 136 pages in all, including each type with itself.
