About the test

What is The Personality Test?

A free personality test website. You answer short statements about yourself and get your Big Five trait scores, a four-letter type code and a full written report, with no sign-up and nothing to pay.

How long does the test take?

The quick test has 50 statements and takes about five minutes. The full test has 116 statements and takes about fifteen. You can pause and come back, because your answers save on your device as you go.

What is the difference between the quick and the full test?

Both measure the same five traits. The full test asks more statements per trait, so its scores are steadier, and it adds 29 facet scores. The quick test is a well-known short version that is great for a first look.

Who wrote the questions?

The statements come from the International Personality Item Pool, a public-domain item bank created by researchers so that anyone can measure personality freely. We name the exact item sets on our How it works page.

Are there shorter quizzes for one trait?

Yes. Each Big Five trait has its own page with a 10-statement quiz: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism. There is also an introvert or extrovert test with six facet scores.

Is this the official version of a famous type test?

No. The Personality Test is independent and is not connected with any other personality test or publisher. We use the familiar four-letter format as a plain label, built from Big Five scores.

Results and types

What do the four letters mean?

E or I comes from Extraversion, N or S from Openness, F or T from Agreeableness, and J or P from Conscientiousness. A score of 50 or more gives the first letter of each pair. The fifth letter, -A or -T, comes from Neuroticism.

What does -A or -T mean?

It shows how strongly you tend to feel stress. -A (Anchored) means a Neuroticism score under 50, so you are calmer under pressure. -T (Tuned-in) means 50 or more, so you feel stress and setbacks more strongly.

Why is my result different from another site?

Different tests use different questions and rules. If one of your scores is near 50, a small change can flip a letter. Your five scores are a better guide than the letters alone.

Are the results accurate?

They are as accurate as a short self-report questionnaire can be, which is reasonably good for the five broad traits. Honest answers, a calm moment and the longer full test all help. No test is perfect, so treat your results as a mirror, not a verdict.

Can I retake the test?

Yes, as often as you like. Your recent results are kept on your device, and the results page lists earlier ones so you can compare them.

Privacy and data

Do you collect my answers or personal data?

No. The test runs in your browser and your answers are never sent to us. We don’t ask for your name or email, and there are no accounts.

Where are my results saved?

In your browser’s local storage, on the device you used. That is how your results page remembers you. You can delete them at any time with the button on the results page or the privacy page.

Is it safe to share my results link?

The link holds only your scores, not your answers, your name or anything about your device. Anyone with the link can see those scores, so share it only with people you choose.

Does the site use cookies?

We don’t set cookies of our own. Our advertising partner, Google, may use cookies to show and measure ads, and in some regions you are asked for consent first. Our privacy policy explains your choices.

Using the site

Can I compare my type with a friend or partner?

Yes. Send the invite link from your results page, or paste two results links on the compare page. You will see both sets of scores side by side with plain notes on each difference.

Can I use the test with a class or a team?

Yes, for discussion and self-reflection. Each person takes the test on their own device. Please don’t use it to grade, select or rank anyone.

Is the test suitable for teenagers?

Yes. It can be a fun way for teens to reflect, and the study tips are written with students in mind. Some statements use harder words, so we added short notes. Results can change more during the teenage years.

How do I report a mistake or suggest an idea?

Email us at hello@thepersonalitytest.app. We read every message and fix confirmed mistakes as quickly as we can.

Still curious? Try it.

The quick test takes about five minutes, and every part of your results is free.
