How does the quick personality quiz work?
The quick test uses 50 statements from the International Personality Item Pool, a free, public-domain set of research questions. This particular set measures the Big Five with ten statements per trait. It follows a model of personality markers published by psychologist Lewis R. Goldberg in 1992, and researchers around the world have used it for decades.
You rate each statement from “Very unlike me” to “Very like me”. Some statements are worded the opposite way, so agreeing with them lowers a score instead of raising it. Your answers become five scores out of 100, and four of those scores become your type code.
How should I answer?
- Describe yourself as you are now, not as you hope to be one day.
- Think about what is true most of the time, at home, with friends and at school or work.
- Don’t stop to analyze each statement. Five minutes is plenty.
- If a word is unfamiliar, look for the short note under the statement.
When should I take the full test instead?
Take the full test if your quick results show a close call on one or more letters, if you want the 29 facet scores, or if you simply want the steadiest result you can get. The full test asks 116 statements and takes about fifteen minutes.
What will I see afterward?
Your results page shows your type code with its nickname, five trait bars, what each score means, and a report with strengths, watch-outs, study tips, career ideas and notes on working with others. You can save a picture of your result, copy a private link or compare with a friend. Everything is free.
Questions about the quick personality quiz
Can a 5-minute test really tell me about my personality?
It gives you a useful snapshot. The 50 statements come from a research set that has been used in many studies, with ten statements for each trait. It won’t capture everything about you, and it is less steady than the full test, but it is a solid start.
How many questions are in the quick personality test?
50 statements: ten for each of the five traits. Some are worded positively and some negatively, which keeps the scores honest.
Will I get the same result as in the full test?
Usually a close one, but not always identical. The two tests use different statements, and if one of your scores sits near 50, a letter can flip between them. In that case your trait scores are the better guide.
Is the quick test free?
Yes, along with every part of your results. There is nothing to unlock and no account to make.
Can I take the test on my phone?
Yes. On a phone you see one statement at a time with large answer buttons, and the test moves on as soon as you answer. On a computer you see five at a time and can answer with the number keys.
What happens to my answers?
They are scored in your browser and saved on your device, so a refresh doesn’t lose your place. They are not sent to us. Once you finish, only your scores are kept, for your results page.
